The Russian superstar is now the only one standing in the way of his move to England...
Arsenal have been chasing Arshavin all month, and the transfer has been one of the lingering soap operas during the January transfer window.
However, it now appears that the deal could soon go through after Zenit released an official statement on their website, announcing that an agreement with Arsenal had been reached.
A fee - thought be in the vicinity of €16 million - has been agreed, and all that is required to complete the move is for personal terms to be sorted.
"Negotiations between Zenit and Arsenal on the transfer of Andrei Arshavin are continuing," the UEFA Cup holders said in a statement last night.
"The clubs have reached an agreement in principle on terms that both sides feel reflect the market value of the player.
"At the moment, the main obstacle in the implementation of the deal are the personal requirements of Andrei Arshavin.
"Arshavin does not intend to reduce the demands of his personal contract, thus hindering the negotiation process and calling into question all the agreements reached between the clubs."
The crux of the problem is that the Russian international is paid significantly more money in his homeland than he stands to earn in the biggest league in the world.
Arshavin currently rakes in around €106,000 per week, a figure that falls well outside Arsenal's pay structure at the moment.
The London giants are willing to dish out over €80,000 per week, which would put him among the top earners at the Emirates, but the pint-sized playmaker is still unhappy with the terms on offer.
"I'm waiting for a final decision," Arshavin told Russian newspaper Sport Express.
"The talks don't depend on me. I haven't been in touch with the club management, so I haven't heard a clear 'yes' or 'no' yet."
